What if I cut out junk food and sugar and increased my own intake of fruits and veggies to recommended levels? In other words, what if I ate like a guinea pig for 30 days? The 30-Day Guinea Pig Challenge was on!
The holidays are a great time to spoil your guinea pigs, rabbits and other small pets! This year, it is easier than ever to find unique gifts online for the special piggies on your list. Here are a few gift selection favorites from our two guinea pigs, Ginger and Cocoa:
We had a lot of fun this week being interviewed by TV 7 and TV 20 Detroit for their "Mom's a Genius" segment, which aired Wednesday and Thursday, and featured the story behind our STAYbowl™ Tip-Proof Bowl for guinea pigs and other pets. My daughter and I were also interviewed live yesterday morning on the TV 20 morning show. And one of our guinea pigs, Ginger, also made her live television debut during the guest appearance. You can see how relaxed she was in front of the cameras in this photo, where she is totally and completely "pancaked out."
**Breaking News** … The brand new ¾-cup STAYbowl™ Tip-Proof Bowl has just arrived in our online shop! This larger bowl has all the same great features of the original STAYbowl™, including a non-tip base and an ergonomic design that prevents spills and wasted kibble, but now in a larger size that can accommodate three to six guinea pigs.
YouTube "vlogger" ZooBoosShedZoo puts ourSTAYbowl™ to the test with her EIGHT guinea pigs (!) in this latest review. She finds the bowl not only keeps the piggies from dumping the kibble, it also works really well for water. Check out the full review here:
Just this week, we upgraded our two guinea pigs, Ginger and Cocoa, to a deluxe C&C cage with a loft. While the old Marchioro cage was pretty big, the new cage gives them a lot more room to run around and explore.
We typically like to do these kinds of projects ourselves. But with our daughter’s 13thbirthday looming, time running out, and a new piggy cage at the top of her wishlist, we decided to take the easy route. We ordered a pre-cut 4x2 C&C grid cage kit with a 1x2 grid loft from Piggy BedSpreads (www.piggybedspreads.com). They are one of our retailers for STAYbowl™ tip-proof bowls.
For some people, a guinea pig is a cute, impulse buy at the pet store. But it shouldn't be that way. These little, furry friends live for quite a long time -- typically five to eight years, and sometimes more! Over time, the cost can really add up. But then, so does the love. :-)
And as with any pet, a guinea pig is a lifelong commitment. Click on the link below for a really good overview of what you can expect to spend on a guinea pig -- about $200 to start. Even a free pet can end up costing a lot in the long run.
